The Triops Mauritanicus is a Triops species found in Spain, but also in countries like Portugal and Italy. Until recently it was a subspecies of Triops Cancriformis because it is very closely related to and similar to this species. Currently, however, the Triops Mauritanicus is a separate species that is characterized by some peculiarities.
How is the Triops Mauritanicus different from other types of Triops?
At first glance, this little prehistoric canary seems almost indistinguishable from the species Triops Cancriformis. But the rare animals have a special feature that is not found in any other triops species. In larger animals, the anatomical difference is visible to the naked eye: At the base of the fork tail (Furca) has the Triops Mauritanicus two protruding and thorn-like processes. These thorns protrude to the right and to the left and are clearly visible in advanced stages of growth.
The prehistoric crab feels well in a temperature range between 24°C and 26°C and can reach an age of approx. 90 to 120 days and a body length of approx. 6 to 12 cm under optimal conditions. His tank is mostly mottled brown or takes on a green color.

The fact that no larva hatches from all triopseggs, is due to the continued existence of the species. After oviposition and dehydration, the cysts go into diapause.
